About

About this blog:

‘What prevents you from dancing?’ is one part of an Arabic proverb. The response is: ‘The shortness of my sleeves’.

It illustrates how what we need can prevent us from having what we desire. It also sums up what motivates my hope for social, economic and political change and what this blog is about – quite simply a desire for more joy in the world. While it might be hard to argue with that, there is ample confusion about where we place our hope for alternatives and just how we go about attaining a more joyful, less alienated world.

So you can expect to find many different thoughts collected here as I ponder the world as it is and as it could be. This is a place for the stuff that won’t fit into the confines of my day job, other writing and certainly not into 140 characters, but that I still want to share.

Sometimes I will drag over conversations and observations from life. Sometimes it will emerge in some embryonic state from whatever else it is I am writing or reading. Sometimes I will indulge you in the whimsical, inspiring or silly. Sometimes it’s simply to save me ranting at everyone else in my life.

I write always to formulate my ideas and to hopefully spark a real conversation.

About this blogger:

My name is Antoinette Abboud. I am in no particular order an activist, feminist, sometimes writer, have been a community worker, communications person, think tanker and teacher. I live in Sydney.

If the world wasn’t so messed up I almost certainly would not be a political tragic or spend nearly as much time watching it with fascinated horror. Instead I would refine the art of hosting dinner parties and relish in beautiful conversations with friends and random strangers. I still find time to do that. And you’ll be glad to know, I am not always prevented from dancing.

You can follow me in tweet size version as @antwoabboud here.

You can find the comments policy here. You can find the Creative Commons licensing info here. Let the conversation and exchange of ideas begin.
